  • JPG / JPEG — photos from any camera or phone
  • PNG — screenshots and edited images

iPhone users: If your photo is in HEIC format (iPhone's default), it won't upload on the web. Save as JPG first, or use the OneFaxNow app which converts HEIC automatically. See the HEIC section below for details.

3

Enter the fax number and your email

Type the recipient's U.S. or Canada fax number. The form auto-formats as you type — just enter the digits.

Enter your email address to receive a delivery confirmation when the fax goes through.

Optional: toggle "Add Cover Page" to include sender and recipient details and a message on the first page of your fax.

4

Pay and send

Review your fax details — number, page count, and price — then tap "Pay & Send". Pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or a credit/debit card.

Pay-on-success guarantee: Your payment is authorized but not charged until the fax is delivered. If the fax fails after 3 automatic retries, the authorization is released and you are never charged.

Photo quality tips for clear faxes

Fax machines reproduce images at lower resolution than your screen. Follow these tips to make sure your faxed photo is readable.

Shoot in portrait

Fax paper is 8.5 x 11 inches in portrait layout. A vertical photo fills the page. Landscape photos get scaled down, making text smaller.

Use even lighting

Avoid shadows and direct flash. Natural daylight or even overhead lighting produces the clearest results. Shadows hide text and create dark spots.

Shoot from directly above

Hold your phone parallel to the document and photograph from directly above. Angled shots distort text and make edges unreadable.

Crop to fill the frame

Remove the background so the document fills the entire photo. Less background means more space for the actual content on the fax page.

Check sharpness first

Pinch to zoom on your photo before uploading. If text is blurry at full zoom, retake the photo. Blurry photos produce unreadable faxes.

Use a document scanner

The Notes app (iPhone) or Google Drive (Android) can scan documents with auto-straightening and contrast enhancement for better fax results.

Common photo faxing scenarios

Photo of a document (contract, form, receipt)

Use your phone's document scanner mode for auto-crop and contrast enhancement. If not available, photograph flat on a table in good lighting. OneFaxNow handles the conversion to fax format automatically.

Photo of an ID, driver's license, or passport

Place the ID on a dark, flat surface and photograph from directly above. A clear, well-lit photo of an ID is accepted the same as a scan. For small cards, crop close so the details are large enough to read at fax resolution.

Handwritten notes or a signature

Write with a dark pen on white paper for maximum contrast. Photograph in good light with no shadows. The high-contrast combination produces the clearest fax result.

An actual photograph (not a document)

Fax machines reproduce images at much lower resolution than a screen. Expect some quality loss — faxes are grayscale, so color information is not transmitted. If detail matters, mention this limitation to the recipient.

Multiple photos as one fax

Upload all photos at once — OneFaxNow merges them into a single multi-page fax in the order you add them. Up to 15 files per fax, 50 pages total. Each photo becomes one page.

iPhone users: HEIC photo format

iPhones save photos in HEIC format by default. HEIC is not supported by most web-based fax services, including OneFaxNow's web version. Here are your options:

Use the mobile app

The OneFaxNow app for iOS and Android converts HEIC photos automatically. Upload directly from your camera roll.

Recommended

Change camera settings

Go to Settings > Camera > Formats and select "Most Compatible". Future photos will be saved as JPG instead of HEIC.

Convert before uploading

Open the photo in the Files app, tap Share, and save as a JPG copy. Some third-party apps also offer batch HEIC-to-JPG conversion.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fax a photo instead of a PDF?

Yes. OneFaxNow accepts JPG and PNG photo files directly. Upload your photo and the service automatically converts it to a fax-compatible format at 300 DPI. No need to convert to PDF first.

Will a photo of a document look okay as a fax?

Yes, as long as the photo is clear, well-lit, and shows the full document. Use your phone's document scanner mode for the best results — it auto-straightens and adjusts contrast. Avoid shadows and angled shots.

Can I fax a photo from my iPhone?

Yes. On Safari, go to OneFaxNow.com and upload a JPG or PNG from your camera roll. HEIC photos (iPhone's default format) are not supported on the web — either change your iPhone camera to "Most Compatible" in Settings, or download the OneFaxNow app which converts HEIC automatically.

What about HEIC photos from my iPhone?

HEIC files are not supported on the web. Use the OneFaxNow mobile app (converts HEIC automatically), change your iPhone camera settings to "Most Compatible" for JPG output, or convert the photo to JPG before uploading.

What resolution should my photo be for faxing?

OneFaxNow automatically optimizes your photo to 300 DPI for the best fax quality. A modern smartphone photo (12+ megapixels) provides more than enough resolution. No manual adjustment needed.

Should I take the photo in portrait or landscape?

Use portrait (vertical) orientation when photographing documents for fax. Fax paper is 8.5 x 11 inches in portrait layout. A landscape photo may be scaled down to fit, making text smaller.

Can I fax multiple photos at once?

Yes. Upload up to 15 photos per fax (50 pages total). OneFaxNow sends them as a single multi-page fax in the order you add them. Each photo becomes one page.

How much does it cost to fax a photo?

The same as any fax: $3.50 for 1-10 pages or $5.00 for 11-50 pages on the web ($3.99 / $5.99 via the iOS app). HIPAA add-on available for medical documents. You only pay on successful delivery.
