Fax IRS Form 8655: reporting agent authorization

Authorize a reporting agent for specified returns, deposits, payments, and related communications.

IRS sources checked October 13, 2026. Verify current instructions before sending.

Before you send

Fax delivery confirms transmission to the destination, not that the IRS has recorded the reporting agent authorization.

What Form 8655 does

Form 8655 authorizes a reporting agent for specified employment tax returns, federal tax deposits and payments, and related communications. It serves a different purpose from a Form 2848 power of attorney or a Form 8821 information authorization.

Check the form before faxing

  • Confirm the taxpayer and reporting agent information and the lines granting the intended authority are complete.
  • Check the taxpayer signature and keep a copy of the executed authorization for your records.
  • The IRS says to send no more than 25 Forms 8655 in one fax transmission. OneFaxNow also limits a fax to 15 files and 50 pages, so split larger batches.
