IRS fax guide
Fax a completed IRS form
Different forms go to different IRS offices. Find your form below, check its current IRS instructions, and send your signed document online. OneFaxNow is an outbound fax service; it does not fill out forms, receive return faxes, or decide whether the IRS accepts a filing.
IRS routing sources checked October 13, 2026. Verify the destination again before sending.
Prepare the form
Complete and sign it according to the IRS instructions.
Confirm the destination
Check the live IRS page for your form and situation.
Review and send
Upload, preview, see the price, and keep the delivery record.
Business setup and elections
S corporation election
Elect S corporation tax treatment. The IRS fax destination depends on the entity’s principal business location.
Employer identification number
Apply for an EIN by fax if the free IRS online application is not suitable. Use your own return fax number if you want a faxed reply.
Authorizations
Power of attorney
Authorize an eligible representative to act before the IRS. Fax routing changes for specific-use authorizations.
Tax information authorization
Let a designee inspect or receive tax information without granting representation authority.
Reporting agent authorization
Authorize a reporting agent for specified returns, deposits, payments, and related communications.
Records and refunds
Tax transcript request
Request a tax transcript. The IRS uses separate charts by transcript type and where you lived or your business was located when you filed.
Missing refund trace
Ask the IRS to trace a refund already issued but not received. Individual and business refund units use different routes.
International tax and residency
Information returns
Identity protection
Individual identity theft affidavit
Report qualifying tax-related identity theft. A notice-specific fax route takes priority over the general number.
Business identity theft affidavit
Report suspected business identity theft or an EIN you never requested. Notice instructions determine the route when you received one.
Identity Protection PIN application
Apply for an Identity Protection PIN by fax if you meet the form’s eligibility rules and cannot use the faster online option.
Taxpayer relief and appeals
Taxpayer Advocate assistance request
Ask the Taxpayer Advocate Service for help with a qualifying IRS problem or hardship. Its assistance is free.
Innocent spouse relief request
Request relief from certain tax liabilities on a joint return. A notice of deficiency may require a separate, time-sensitive Tax Court petition.
Collection Due Process hearing request
Request a Collection Due Process or equivalent hearing after an eligible IRS lien or levy notice. Ask the IRS for the correct fax number.
Have an IRS notice instead?
Use the fax number and deadline printed on your notice or provided by the IRS employee handling your case. There is no single IRS fax number for every document.
